Lewis Hamilton blamed his McLaren engineers’ decision to send him out on used soft tyres at the start of the qualifyer as the reason for him only landing 10th for his home British Grand Prix, and said McLaren’s MP4-26 simply wasn’t fast enough to fight for the grid positions they ideally wanted at Silverstone.
Asked if he was disappointed by the new regulations, he replied: “No, not really. We came here with some updates and we came here driving qualifying with none of them so I guess that’s really the situation.
“We’re just not fast enough.
“Regarding my position, I don’t know what the weather forecast is and I keep asking my guys ‘what’s the weather, let’s get out first’ and they put on old tyres and everyone else had new tyreson, so I didn’t have the grip.
“When I went out on new tyres the rain came.”
“I think I’ve got a couple of people in front of me that I might be quicker than, overtaking here is very difficult for course, but I think we can still have an exciting race from there” he said.
“It’s again not a fantastic weekend but I’m still quite happy because of the support we have here.”
