Tyre Safety Month

Tyre company Continental are backing the campaign of ‘tyre safety month’.

Its to help raise awareness of how tyres can be affected during the winter, as there are specifictyres made for winter.

They have more traction on them to avoid slipping around on icy weather.

Tracey Hyem, A manager at Continental said “We look on with envy at European countries that manage to keep business going as usual when a few flakes of snow bring our roads to a standstill.

“Those countries have a history of fitting the right tyres for the right season. Winter tyres are available to purchase in the UK from all good retailers. Our advice to drivers is to think about winter tyres early now. There’s no point in being stuck on your driveway when the snow starts falling.”

Nick Heidfield ‘keeping options open’

So it has been said today that Nick Heidfield has said that he is leaving his options open for 2011.

But is that down to not being signed for next year with Sauber, should he have stayed withPirelli?

He only has 5 races left of this year with Sauber now and then what happens next year, no one knows yet..

“I want to race; I believe I can do a good job. I’ve signed only for this season, the situation for next year is completely open with Sauber but also with other teams with which I have already been in talks over the last couple of weeks,” he said.

“It was very interesting; obviously, starting to test with Pirelli and helping them develop the tyres. First of all, I think they’ve done a very good job until now because there wasn’t much time for them after they basically learned that they would supply tyres for next season,” Heidfeld added.

Pirelli F1 Tyre Testing Update

Nick Heidfield has been testing out the tyres for pirelli‘s formula 1 and has been driving Toyota TF109 test car fitted with F1 PZero tyres.
For roughly 2 days he had been driving around Le Castellet in France, so that final analysis and evaluation could be completed.
Paul Hembery has stated “We’re very happy with the progress we’ve made so far, which actually puts us slightly ahead of where we expected to be at this point in time,” Hembery pointed out. “We worked through an initial development programme that has given us a useful insight into the performance of our prototype tyres under a wide range of conditions, corners and speeds. We’ve been hugely encouraged by what we’ve seen up to now, and that’s been helped by both Nick’s clear and precise feedback, as well as all the different possibilities afforded to us by the Paul Ricard circuit.”

Bridgestone are to increase tyre price.

As from October 2010 Bridgestone have made the decision to increase  the price of all their tyres by up to 6%.
Mario Ohashi, Bridgestone Europe President has said “The increase in the cost in raw materials has continued and reached a historically high level. We have to recover some of those costs by this price increase and most probably further increases will be necessary in the coming year and Having encouraging signs of demand recovery trend in many tyre segments, we have already been operating all of our European tyre plants at full production and the production expansion of new East European plants is in progress as planned”.

Finally adding “In order to continue fulfilling our commitment to European market, we have to make this sensible decision to increase prices and maintain a sound and solid business foundation”.
