Pirelli Tyres ready for testing

Pirelli tyres are ready for testing on the first day of the Formula 1 season championships.
They will be used on the track in Valencia which is where the first race will be held.
Pirelli took over from Bridgestone at the end of the championships in 2010 and will be laying out their PZero tyres for both wet and dry types.
Paul Hembery, Motorsport Director for Pirelli, said: “We arrive in Valencia with all our compounds defined and ready to offer the teams different tyre solutions.
“Having enjoyed an intense and fruitful collaboration so far, this test will provide us with some useful feedback and a valuable taste of the season to come.
“It goes without saying that we are eagerly awaiting the first Grand Prix. Valencia will be a very significant test, as it will allow us to experience a situation that is very similar to real race conditions, although the ambient conditions aren’t representative of the rest of the year, and also give us a good idea of how to work together in future.
“The objective of this test is to give all the teams the opportunity to become better acquainted with the tyres that we will supply to them this season, before they end their development programmes prior to the first Grand Prix of the year in Bahrain.”

Pirelli best tyre in 2010

As we thought Pirelli tyres were the most recommended brand of 2010 and we aren’t surprised as they announced last year that they would be the new tyre producer for Formula 1 championships this year.
Encircle Marketing, which specialises in the tyre industry, found that the Italian tyres manufacturer accounted for eight per cent of all recommendations – up by almost half a point on its 2009 performance.
Dominic Sandivasci, managing director of Pirelli UK  said: “We are very pleased with the statistics. It is really gratifying, and a great result for all of the employees at Pirelli who have worked so hard to ensure our tyres and the service we offer is to the highest standard possible.”

Yokohama winter tyres.

Yokohama tyre company have released and update that their winter tyres had “‘excellent response” which were highly sold during December 2010.
Yokohama Spokesman said “While last winter’s snowy and icy conditions left many drivers stranded and while the early snow and ice also caused problems last November, motorists were more prepared than ever before. This was borne out by what YHPT terms “the excellent response to the introduction of the W.drive range to the UK.”
“The company has begun its attempts to differentiate its winter range from other seasonal products, stating that the W.drive are designed to give drivers “much more traction than a comparably-sized summer equivalent” in “all conditions”, not just when there is snow and ice on the roads.
Yokohama says its winter tyres’ advanced compound responds to a wide range of temperature zones, providing better performance under various winter conditions. The tread pattern is designed to cope with wet and dry surfaces as well as snow and ice.”

Yokohama bring in new rally tyre

Yokohama have released a new tyre in the UK this week  for its rally fields.
The Yokohama A053 is new gravel tyre and was designed during the season in 2010.
The tyre will be available in 3 compounds: super soft, soft and medium.
Mark Evans Yokohama worker said “We are very excited by the introduction of the A053 tyre. The preceding gravel tyre, the A035E, had a good reputation but the new one is an improvement in every aspect.
“Tests have shown greater traction and grip, improved stability and just as important, enhanced strength and therefore, puncture resistance. We are currently in discussion with several drivers with
a view to supporting their campaigns in British rallying and I’m looking forward to them demonstrating how good a tyre the A053 is.”

Potholes causing MAJOR problems!

We have already posted previously about potholes but it has come to a whole new level in Scotland!
As a whole busy road had to be closed in Scotland due to a huge pothole appearing.
A spokesman gave a statement on behalf of Scotland Council and said ”We can confirm that a pothole was made safe on the A701 southbound, on the outskirts of Penicuik, around 8pm on Thursday night.
“However, police decided to close the road until a repair was carried out and completed by 9.30am this morning.”
It seems like a minor problem but when you cannot avoid a pothole and you have drive in it you can puncture or burst your tyres, which can cause serious accidents.

Will Pirelli make Schumacher happy?

Apparently Michael Schumacher will be happy with Pirelli‘s tyres during this years formula 1 championships.
This is because the tyres have been tweaked slightly from the ones that were used during the tests in Abu Dhabi in 2010.
Paul Hembrey, Pirelli‘s Motorsport director has said ”We were asked to provide a slightly stronger front tyre, which is what we’ve done,” Hembery reported.
“In the process we maybe threw the rear out of balance, which is something that was noted during the test. But we’ve also improved that during the remaining tests that we’ve done.
“We were asked to try to beef up the front tyre, to give it more a precise input when the drivers turn into the corner, to give more feel. We believe we’ve done that, and we’ve now finished the work on the rear so we’ll see how we get on with a car designed around our tyres.”
“We’ve got no request in place [for Friday 21st January practice] because we haven’t run yet,” he told media.
“But that’s something that, if we do uncover problems as we go along – or we’ve maybe got the wrong positioning of a compound for the positioning we’re using, we can ask them to add in a test session to give us more information. That’s something we’ll hold in reserve for an emergency.
“At the moment we know we’re going to be in Istanbul in April, then Barcelona in May. We’ll definitely be back in the Middle East again in Bahrain and Abu Dhabi at the end of the season. We couldn’t get Silverstone, we’re trying to go to Monza and probably Spa as well.
“So we are trying to carry on a parallel development programme. That’s obviously looking more for 2012. We’ve got some ideas that, given more time we would have taken forward, but those now are rested and being put towards that programme.”

Watch out for the potholes!

The pot holes are back and nastier than ever!
Due to the very bad weather conditions over the winter period, the roads have taken a beating.
Obviously when it snows it freezes the road and when people drive down them, the road cracks and thats what causes the holes.
Until the roads can be resurfaced its something that we have to be dealing with, so drive carefully and keep your tyres in good shape and make sure that you check them everyday for road safety.
These potholes are causing more problems than what the snow did, as they are more dangerous – why your thinking?
You don’t have to go out in the snow and you also have your car equipped for the appropriate weather but with potholes they’re unavoidable.
So if you do see one in the road slow down, try to drive around it but check for cars on the other of the road before you do as its also very dangerous, we advise to just drive slowly across them.
Check your tyres everyday.

Winter tyres helped food chain!

Online food chain Ocado had winter tyres fitted to all of their vans so that they could still try and sell their products.
The winter tyres did their job amazingly and Ocado workers could still get out even in the worst weather conditions, they had to be trained to drive in the appropriate coniditions also.
Out of all the orders that were placed they got out to 98% of them, which is a very high percentage and could have been alot lower due to the bad weather.
Comparing the weather conditions to previous years only 6 vans had to be pulled out of the snow where as in years before up to 200 have been.
