Snow socks, for your tyres?

It sounds crazy! But its true, you can have ‘socks’ put on your tyres during this bad weather!
Basically, its meant to be better than the chains you can use on your tyres and apparently wintertyres.
You just slip this ‘sock’ over your wheel and your tyre and your ready to go, obviously with moving the car backwards and forwards to the sock covers the entire tyre.
For safety make sure there is enough room between your hand and the wheel arch to put the sock round as it may be too small otherwise.
They hold on when you are driving, so there is no need to worry and as there are no attachments that means to being weighed down either.
Vauxhall are selling them and they are MoT approved and retail from £49.95.
You cannot use them the whole way through the winter period as using them that much on the tarmac can just ruin them completely.
They can be used for speeds up to 50 mph but if you decide to use them its advised that you should drive a little slower than that as again you will ruin them quickly.

Toyota winter tyre programme.

Tyre manufacturer Toyota are currently testing winter tyres for there cars for Britain.
The cars they are using them on are Auris, the Avensis and the Corolla, and they will be tested at 2 centres in Britain.
Toyota have said they are doing this because as the weather in Britain is getting bad and its meant to get worse they would like help out where they can.
The aim is to increase safety for motorists after some of the worst winters Britain has experienced for years and to increase the awareness of the benefits of winter tyres.

Harry Potter rolls on Avon tyres

In the newest Harry Potter film which is the first part of 2, he can be seen escaping in the Avontyres on a side car.
Saved by Hagrid,  they ride off burning Avon rubber, and obviously Avon are very happy about Potter using their tyres.
Explaining about Potter’s choice of tyre, Avon’s Global Motorcycle sales manager Graham Matcham said: “We’ve had a long relationship with Royal Enfield, as we are the original equipment tyre supplier to this legendary motorcycle manufacturer. We don’t want to give away too much of the plot, but obviously we’re overjoyed that our tyres helped Harry give the Death Eaters the slip during part of the film, while also giving the bike maximum grip and longevity.”
Isn’t it funny?

Goodyear ‘Space Tyre’

Good year and NASA have come together randomly? To produce a tyre that will never puncture!?

“The new airless ‘Spring Tyre‘ improves on the wire-mesh designs employed on the Lunar Roving Vehicle (LRV) driven by astronauts on Apollo missions 15 to 17″ reports New Scientist.
This cray tyre is made from 800 weight-bearing springs and is made to carry much heavier vehicles over much greater distances than LRV tyres could manage across the bumpy surface of the moon.

Amazing really what people have come up with in this decade what will they think of next!

Hamilton praises Bridgestone tyres

British F1 driver Lewis Hamilton has been praising Bridgestone at a recent promotional event.

Turning up, Hamilton has been saying how happy he is with the production company.

The British racer told reporters: “I have been driving with Bridgestone tyres since I was a 13-year-old.

I have always felt safe using them and I generally know how they behave, which is not easy because you have to work hard to understand tyres.

“You don’t learn about them straight away; you have to learn bit by bit.”

Apollo Tyres increase prices

Apollo tyres has said today that they will be increasing their tyre prices by 15-20%.

Its not certain when this is all going to happen ideas are just in the pipeline at the moment.

Its due to the rubber that the pricing is rising as the rubber makes 40% of the tyre.

New Delhi: Apollo Tyres Ltd will have to raise prices by as much as 15-20% to sustain margins on record high rubber prices, a top official said on Thursday. “The situation looks challenging.

Price increases are definitely inevitable, given the pressure we are facing on raw materials,” Sunam Sarkar, chief financial officer, told Reuters in an interview.
