Continental tyres back women’s football.

The WSL is the Football Association’s new league and consists of 8 semi professional teams which will play from April through to September. At present it will be the highest level of women’s football.

Guy Frobisher, of Continental Tyres, added: “Continental Tyres has a strong association with football as an Official Sponsor of the FIFA World Cup. We are proud to extend this to women’s football in England. “2011 is an exciting year for the sport, with both the launch of the WSL and the FIFA Women’s World Cup Germany. It is sure to be a year that will prove important to the game and offer encouragement to the stars of the future, Continental is proud to be a part of this.”

Participating in The FA WSL are Arsenal Ladies, Birmingham City Ladies, Bristol Academy, Chelsea Ladies, Doncaster Rovers Belles, Everton Ladies, Lincoln Ladies and Liverpool Ladies. Alex Horne, General Secretary at The FA, added: “With England’s International Women’s teams doing so well on the world stage and participation levels here at such a high, it’s vital we have a competitive, well structured and, critically, commercially sustainable league at the top of the women’s game.”

“Through the support of Continental and other partners, we are able to provide the infrastructure we need through the WSL to ensure our most talented players and young players coming through the ranks can achieve their dream of playing football to a high quality, elite standard in this country.”
